I recently attended The British Photography Awards 2024 in London, this is the third year in a row that my one of my tintypes has been shortlisted in the portrait category. This year my portrait of Trystan Chambers from No Fit State Circus was selected.
Although I didn’t win, I feel honoured to have my work selected from thousands of entries and moreover that it has been keeping a foothold for analogue/large format/alternative process amongst a sea of digital images. There’s a fine art to the tintypes I make, they are all handcrafted from scratch and because of not only the nature of the wet collodion process but also the extended capabilities of using a monorail camera the images created have qualities a digital camera simply cannot replicate.
I feel proud to have my tintype work recognised and celebrated in this way.
